MOUNT CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. • A snowmobiler is dead and another was partially buried in a large avalanche near Mount Crested Butte in Colorado.

Gunnison County coroner Frank Vader says the accident happened Monday close to Kebler Pass.

Vader said Tuesday the victim is not being identified pending notification of relatives. The other snowmobiler was not seriously injured.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the avalanche was about 500 feet wide. The center says Monday's death is the ninth nationally this season.

On Sunday, 21-year-old Ashleigh Cox of Colorado Springs died after being caught in an avalanche in Utah while she was snowshoeing Saturday in American Fork Canyon. About 90 miles away in Utah's Sanpete County, 36-year-old Clint Conover died after being buried in a slide Sunday while snowmobiling.
