Warrant issued for Colo. man accused of being drunk on horse

Boulder, Colo. • Patrick Schumacher, who was arrested here in September after witnesses say he wandered into traffic while riding his horse drunk with his pug, failed to appear for his hearing today in Boulder County court.

Schumacher, 45, of Colorado Springs, was riding his horse Dillon along with his pug, Bufford, through Boulder on Sept. 9 on his way to Utah for his brother's wedding when he was stopped by police.

Witnesses said he and his horse were wandering into traffic and that Schumacher repeatedly hit the horse near Broadway and Baseline Road.

Schumacher is facing misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, cruelty to animals with neglect or mistreatment, and a prohibited use of a weapon charge for allegedly being drunk while in possession of a gun.

After spending a night in jail following his arrest, Schumacher eventually made it to Utah, he said. He did call to check in with prosecutors in December.

But Boulder District Attorney spokeswoman Catherine Olguin said Schumacher failed to appear for his case management conference today.

A judge issued a $500 arrest warrant for Schumacher.

Schumacher did not return calls for comment.
