The Utah Grizzlies have a connection to Canada's women's hockey team. Canada coach Kevin Dineen is a brother of Gord Dineen, whose No. 2 was retired by the Grizzlies in 2004. He played parts of six seasons with the Grizzlies, helping them win the International Hockey League's Turner Cup as a defenseman in 1996. Dineen, who played 528 games in the NHL, also had a stint as a player/assistant coach with the Grizzlies. Kevin Dineen became Canada's coach only in mid-December after the former coach resigned, citing his inability to get through to the players. Dineen recently had been fired by the NHL's Florida Panthers.
