One of the most anticipated events of the 2014 Olympics will conclude the first full week of the Games. Russia and the USA will meet Saturday at 5:30 a.m. MST in what's naturally billed as a rematch of the 1980 "Miracle On Ice," even though the teams have met as recently as 2006 in Turin (a 5-4 victory for Russia). The circumstances obviously are much different than in 1980, now that NHL players are involved in the Olympic tournament. What's clear is how much Russia needs to win the hockey gold medal, to have these Games viewed as successful domestically. It's worth remembering that this is just a preliminary game. In 2010 in Vancouver, the Americans beat host Canada in pool play, but lost the gold medal game to the Canadians in overtime.
