Salt Lake City resident Kaitlyn Farrington departed Russia on Sunday, headed to New York to engage in a media tour similar to what Park City's Sage Kotsenburg experienced last week.Farrington is expected to appear on the "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Live with Kelly and Michael," among other stops, according to the Idaho Statesman. The U.S. Olympic Committee orchestrates the first 36 hours of a medalist's celebration in the Managing Victory program, with a series of interviews and an appearance at USA House in Sochi, where the athlete honors an influential coach. Agents take over from there, scheduling appearances. In that sense, it obviously helps to win a gold medal early in the Games, as Kotsenburg did in slopestyle snowboarding and Farrington did in the halfpipe. That way, they can get bookings while the Olympics are going on and interest remains high. Such obligations keep them from joining in the Closing Ceremony, however.
