For the seventh straight time while playing at Montana, the Weber State men's basketball team lost Thursday night in Missoula, Mont., 68-57. Despite the loss, the Wildcats remained atop the Big Sky standings at 11-4, with a one-game lead over Northern Colorado with five games to go. Kyle Tresnak led the Wildcats with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, and 5-of-5 shooting at the free-throw line. Davion Berry added 12 for Weber State, and Jeremy Senglin chipped in 10.
Portland State 86, Southern Utah 79 • The Thunderbirds had the lead with a minute to play, nearly picking up just their second win of the year, but faltered down the stretch in Cedar City to lose 86-79 and fall to 1-23 on the season. Trey Kennedy and Casey Oliverson had 19 points each for SUU.
Women's basketball
BYU 89, Pepperdine 75 • The Cougars rolled to the win Thursday night in Malibu, Calif., to improve to 22-5 and 12-4 in West Coast Conference play. Lexi Eaton had a game-high 25 points for BYU. Other double-digit scorers were Jennifer Hamson (17), Kim Beeston (15) and Morgan Bailey (14).
Utah Valley 84, Chicago State 62 • The Wolverines rolled to a home win thanks to 63 percent shooting for the game. Katie Kuklok had a game-high 24 points.
Weber State 56, Montana 54 • After a 51-game losing streak, the Wildcats have now won two in a row after the win in Ogden. Kalie Matthews and Amanda Hughes scored 14 points apiece.
