Lehi police officer hailed for life-saving CPR

A Lehi police officer is being hailed by his fire department counterparts for playing a critical role in reviving an unconscious man after he had collapsed outside a restaurant.

Lehi Police Officer James Skinner was off-duty and had just had dinner with his family on Feb. 13, when he saw the 34-year-old man lying unresponsive on the pavement outside the Del Taco restaurant at 3633 N. Thanksgiving Way in Lehi.

"Officer Skinner immediately initiated CPR and provided vital information to emergency dispatchers. Officer Skinner continued administering aid while Lehi Fire medical personnel responded," Lehi police Lt. Darren Paul said on Friday.

At the request of paramedics, Skiller continued chest compressions while the patient, who survived, was loaded into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital.

"In my opinion, the actions of Officer Skinner were extremely instrumental in bringing this patient back. Without his quick action I doubt this patient's recovery would have been nearly as successful," said Lehi Fire Capt. Jake Beck, who was on-scene during the incident.

Added Lehi Fire Battalion Chief Rick Howard: "Officer Skinner's quick actions were instrumental in saving the man's life."
