Salt Lake City sees fifth bank robbery in 48 hours

Salt Lake City's rash of bank robberies continued Friday when a man held up a Zion's Bank.

Police say the man walked into the branch at 910 W. 2100 South about 6 p.m. and demanded money. The teller complied and the man fled north on foot.

The robbery was the fifth in Salt Lake City in just 48 hours, and the holdups have had police scrambling to capture suspects. Earlier Friday, robbers in "old man" masks also hit a jewelry store near Trolley Square.

Police described the robber from Friday's Zion's Bank holdup as a white man between 50 and 60 years old. He stood about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed 160 pounds and had a gray beard and moustache. He wore a dark blue baseball cap displaying a yellow-gold Maltese cross, a white t-shirt, a gray or beige jacket with a hood, dark pants and working or hiking boots.
