Spanish Fork police on Monday warned residents and businesses alike to be leery of any calls they receive about their utilities payments supposedly being past due.

It's a con, trying to separate you from your money.

A number of residents and business owners report have received the calls, in which scammers threaten utilities shutoffs unless payments are immediately arranged over the telephone.

Police urge recipients of such calls to immediately notify the Spanish Fork City Utilities Department, and under no circumstances should they provide credit card or personal information to the callers.

Anyone with questions about their utility billing status can call 801-804-4500.
