I usually enjoy Paul Rolly's column and don't mind who the target is. However I believe that Monday's column comparing Gov. Chris Christie to Gov. Scott Matheson is completely off base ("Chris Christie could learn from former Utah governor Matheson," Opinion, Feb. 24).
One need only look back a year and a half, when Gov. Christie responded to the impacts of Superstorm Sandy. The devastation was apparently similar to the situation handled by Gov. Matheson. However the reaction of Gov. Christie to the New Jersey bridge closure was just the opposite of what Mr. Rolly describes. It was a combination of his personal and professional reactions to this storm that drove Gov. Christie's approval ratings by New Jersey residents to extraordinary heights (especially for a Republican)!
Gov. Christie was also lauded by many (and demonized by some) for touring the devastation with President Obama. When we compare apples to apples, readers can get a clearer picture of Gov. Christie and his deep concern for New Jersey citizens. Let's not continue to focus on a traffic situation that is being blown way out of proportion to demonize an effective governor in New Jersey.
