Park City received free publicity worth $1.4 million from coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics, according to the Park City Chamber & Visitors Bureau.

Bureau President and CEO Bill Malone said Cision, a national media monitoring service, determined that value based on 280 mentions of Park City by athletes and broadcasters during the Games, which ended Sunday.

"This value shows why the Olympics and other international winter sporting competitions are a key factor in Park City's visibility as a world-class winter destination," Malone said.

"Because so many Olympic winter athletes call Park City home, a solid perception among the media has been created that we are the winter sports capital of the United States," he added. "Even casual observers of the Sochi Olympics have to come away thinking Park City is the place to go on a ski vacation."
