NFL • The 49ers and receiver Anquan Boldin agreed Monday to a two-year, $12 million contract ($9 million guaranteed), keeping quarterback Colin Kaepernick's top target from hitting free agency. Boldin, who was set to become a free agent next week, led San Francisco with 85 catches, 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
• The NFL formally designated New Orleans' Jimmy Graham as a tight end Monday for the purposes of his franchise tag value, set at $7.05 million unless Graham and the Saints can agree on a long-term deal. Graham splits out as a receiver on most plays, so there was a push to give him a receiver's tag, worth $12.1 million. Graham could file a grievance and have an arbitrator pick his tag.
• Tennessee has agreed to a multiyear contract with safety Bernard Pollard, who started all 16 games last season and led the Titans with 142 tackles, including 93 solo stops. He also had three interceptions.
• Washington placed a franchise tag Monday on three-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Brian Orakpo, all but ensuring he will remain with the team next season. He is eligible to become a free agent, but Washington now has the right to match any offer by another team.
Notre Dame vs. North Carolina
COLLEGE BASKETBALL •James Michael McAdoo hit the go-ahead shot in the lane with 3:09 left and Marcus Paige blocked Eric Atkins' driving shot on the final play to seal No. 14 North Carolina's 63-61 victory over Notre Dame on Monday night in Chapel Hill, N.C.
McAdoo finished with 14 points to lead the Tar Heels (23-7, 13-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), who blew a 14-point halftime lead and had to fight to the horn for their 12th straight win in their home finale. It is UNC's longest winning streak since 2008-09.
It marked the second straight close win for the Tar Heels against a team in the lower third of the ACC standings, following Saturday's 60-56 win at Virginia Tech. Still, they haven't lost since Jan. 20 heading into Saturday's finale at No. 4 Duke.
Atkins scored 21 points for Notre Dame (15-16, 6-12), which used a 22-5 run out of halftime to make a game of it.
• Joel Embiid will sit out the final two regular-season games for No. 8 Kansas so he can rest a lower back strain that has already caused him to miss a game, and it's possible the freshman 7-footer could be out through the Big 12 tourney.
