Members of the Metro Gang Unit evacuated residents of a West Valley City apartment complex during an armed standoff with a felony fugitive.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the 29-year-old male suspect, wanted for parole violation, was traced to a four-plex unit at 1791 W. Parkway Blvd. about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Neighboring units were cleared as officers, including some from West Valley City, secured the immediate area and began negotiations.

Eventually, the suspect dropped a handgun out a window of the apartment and about 2:15 a.m. came outside and surrendered.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where he was being held Thursday without bail on suspicion of third-degree felony parole violation and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
