It's been since 2008 that the online digital version of HBO, known as HBO Go, was launched, and it's finally landed on the PlayStation 3 this week.

HBO released its HBO Go app for the video game console Wednesday, allowing users to watch the network's programming by streaming shows to their televisions via the console.

There's only one problem — it won't work on the PlayStation 3 for most Utahns. That's because most broadband Internet users get their broadband connections through Comcast, and Comcast is not one of the providers listed to work with the new HBO Go app even though it is the biggest provider broadband Internet provider in the country.

In order to activate the app, you have to tell it you're a subscriber to one of 45 Internet Service Providers listed, only Comcast/Xfinity is not listed.

In a response to tech blog, The Verge, Comcast stated: "With every new website, device or player we authenticate, we need to work through technical integration and customer service which takes time and resources. Moving forward, we will continue to prioritize as we partner with various players."

But Comcast has refused access to the HBO Go app for Roku users as well.

Meanwhile, Sony, the makers of the PlayStation, said it also is working on an HBO Go app for its newer PlayStation 4 box. There is no indication yet on whether that will work with Comcast/Xfinity users either. HBO Go also is available for desktop computers, some Blu-Ray players and the Xbox 360 gaming console, which does work for Comcast users.
