DOT: Fresh mountain snow prompts travel caution

Fresh rounds of mountain snow expected late Thursday prompted the Utah Department of Transportation to caution drivers traveling through northern Utah's passes.

Through noon Friday, UDOT warned, slush and snow will make roads hazardous at the higher elevations where up to 10 inches of new snow was expected to fall. Valley roads, too, will be slippery as rain pelts the region.

Of particular concern was Interstate 80 over Parleys Summit, east of Salt Lake City, along with stretches of Interstate 15 in both central and southern Utah. I-15 between Spanish Fork and Cedar City was expected to remain wet through mid-morning Friday.

Road slush was to be a problem between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday over Pine Creek Ridge, just south of Interstate 80, as well as I-70 over Clear Creek Summit, just east of the I-15 junction between 11 p.m. Thursday through 9 a.m. Friday.

UDOT also warned that summit routes in both central and southern Utah will see periods of road snow through Friday morning.
