Like newspapers across the country, The Salt Lake Tribune has grappled with its online comment boards.
Defenders maintain the space is the ultimate free-speech zone, a place readers can gather to dissect the news of the day and offer a diversity of opinion and perspective. Opponents argue comment boards devolve into a space that's rude and crass, a breeding ground for mudslingers and Web trolls.
On Monday at 12:15 p.m., Tribune Deputy Editor Tim Fitzpatrick, Tribune Web moderator Amy Lewis and University of Connecticut journalism professor Marie Shanahan join Jennifer Napier-Pearce to discuss the good, bad and ugly of online comments.
You can join the discussion by sending questions and comments to the hashtag #TribTalk on Twitter and Google+. You can also text comments to 801-609-8059.
