Arlington, Texas • Max Schuman had three hits and Nick Green struck out four and allowed no hits in 12⁄3 innings to earn the save in Utah's 9-8 victory Saturday at Abilene Christian in college baseball.

Cory Hunt, TJ Bennett and Biss Larson each had two hits for the Utes (7-6), which produced a season-high 14 hits.

"It was a tough pitching day," Utah coach Bill Kinneberg said. "The wind was blowing hard and it was really cold, so there was a lot of offense. It was a fight all the way to the end. Nick Green was really good again with a five-out save. It was a good win."

Nicholls State 6, BYU 1 • In Thibodaux, La., Grant Borne struck out 11 Cougars (7-10), who took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but committed six errors en route to their second straight loss to the Colonels.

Long Beach State 7, Utah Valley 3 • The Wolverines led 3-1 entering the seventh inning, when the Dirtbags exploded for four runs for their second straight victory against UVU (3-11).

Craig Brinkerhoff and Jordy Hart each had two hits for the Wolverines, who have lost eight of their past nine games.

Softball

Indiana State 4, Utah 1; Kansas 4, Utah 1 • In Clearwater, Fla., the Utes (9-7) lost twice Saturday at the University of South Florida Invitational.

In Game 1, Indiana State scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In Game 2, Kate Dickman had an RBI and two of Utah's four hits, but the Jayhawks broke the game open with a two-run fifth inning.

BYU 6, North Dakota State 3; Stanford 7, BYU 5 • In Stanford, Calif., the Cougars won their first game and lost their second at the Stanford Classic.

In Game 1, McKenzie St. Clair and Megan Arnold each hit a home run for the Cougars.

In Game 2, Coco Tauali'l and Sydney Broderick each had two hits for BYU (9-13), but Stanford (20-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win.

San Diego 2, Utah State 0 • In Riverside, Calif., Cassidy Coleman struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in a complete-game victory over the Aggies (5-6), who have lost three straight games.

Wrestling

Utah Valley finished fourth out of six teams at the NCAA West Regional in Orem.

North Dakota State placed first with 74 points, Wyoming was second (66), Air Force third (50) and UVU fourth (49.5).

Men's volleyball

BYU 3, Cal State Northridge 1 • In Northridge, Calif., Tim Dobbert had 15 kills and Taylor Sander added 12 to propel the Cougars (13-4, 13-2 MPSF) over the Matadors 25-22, 25-23, 28-26, 25-18.
