SWAT team responds after shots fired in Davis County

No one was hurt Saturday after a Davis County SWAT team surrounded a house in West Point after gun shots were fired in the area.

Davis County Sheriff Todd Richardson said Saturday morning that police were called to the home, near 3700 W. 1500 North, on reports of multiple gun shots. When an officer arrived in the area, he heard one gun shot and saw multiple people "rush back into the house."

The SWAT team surrounded the home for about seven hours before they were able to make contact with the seven people who had rushed into the home and refused to leave.

Richardson said they were not sure why the group of people would not come out of the house, but said deputies did arrest several of them on drug-related offenses that day.

"Everybody just kind of gave us a different explanation," he said. "None of it was believable."

Six of the seven home occupants had left by about noon, Richardson said, but they believed one person ­— possibly the one who was firing the gun — was still inside. After a search warrant was authorized, police entered the home, but found it was empty.

"We didn't find him in the house," Richardson said. "He was down the road from the house."
