Thousands of people in West Valley City lost power Sunday after someone crashed into a power pole.
About 6:30 a.m., a silver Chevy Suburban was traveling west on 3500 South when it crashed into the pole near 3900 West, said West Valley City Police Sgt. Paul Gill. The crash broke the pole and knocked down the power lines, which fell across 3500 West, Gill said.
The driver fled the scene, Gill added.
The downed lines interrupted power to about 2,390 homes and businesses for about 37 minutes, said Margaret Ohler, Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman. However, repair crews had to shut the power off again for about 21 minutes during the early afternoon so they could replace the broken pole, Ohler said.
