Police say the suspect in a weekend shooting in west Salt Lake City remained at large Monday, and they are hoping the public will help them find him.

A 17-year-old male was in satisfactory condition after being shot in the lower leg near 1575 S. Concord Street (1250 West) about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police did not immediately find either the victim nor the suspect when they responded to numerous 911 calls about the gunfire. However, the victim was soon located in Murray, where his friends reportedly had driven him to Intermountain Medical Center.

SLCPD Sgt. Robin Heiden said the suspect was described as a Polynesian man in his late teens, 6-foot-1, and last seen wearing a khaki shorts and a blue hooded jacket with gray lining.

Possible gang connections were being explored by detectives as part of the investigation, but police declined to further discuss possible motives, noting the matter was part of an ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
