Washington County Sheriff's Lt. resigns after DUI charges

The lieutenant over investigations for the Washington County Sheriff's Department resigned this week following DUI charges.

Jason Lynn Adams, 39, was driving with four children on Feb. 9 on State Road 17 near Toquerville when his Ford F-150 rolled off the road, troopers wrote in a probable cause statement filed last months. None of the children was injured in the crash.

When troopers arrived, Adams said he had multiple guns in the truck because he was taking his children to a shooting range, troopers wrote.

The responding trooper wrote that Adams "was very unsteady on his feet, unable to maintain his balance, slipping and falling prior to entering my patrol vehicle."

The trooper smelled alcohol on Adams breath and ordered a field sobriety test, which Adams struggled with, according to court documents.

Adams requested a blood alcohol test, which is pending.

Adams was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to operate within a single lane, both misdemeanors.

Adams resigned from the sheriff's department on Tuesday, said department spokesman Nate Abbott.
