Utah forecast: Friday smorgasbord — sun, wind, rain and snow

Consider northern Utah's weather for Friday something of a climatological buffet: a sunny beginning, giving way to partly cloudy skies, increasing winds and then valley rain and mountain snow.

A sort of freewheeling, Julia Child kind of forecast there. Bon appétit!

The Wasatch Front looked for daytime highs in the low-60s on Friday — a few degrees warmer than Thursday — with winds of 15-25 mph buffeting the region in the afternoon. Late Friday night rain showers were expected at lower elevations with light snow in the mountains.

Southern Utahns also expected breezy weather on Friday with highs near 70 degrees, though Utah's Dixie was expected to skip the precipitation.

The Utah Avalanche Center graded the Uintas at "considerable" risk for potentially deadly backcountry snowslides, while the rest of the state's mountains registered"moderate"for avalanche danger.

The Utah Division of Air Quality's index painted the entire state "green," its color for healthy breathing conditions.
