Arrested Logan couple allegedly linked to multi-county burglaries

Cache County sheriff's deputies believe they have closed the books on a series of northern and eastern Utah vehicle and residential burglaries with the arrests of Logan couple.

Sheriff G. Lynn Nelson said the arrests of a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman began with a traffic violated stop early Monday morning. At that time, deputies learned the man was wanted on two warrants out of Salt Lake County. He was arrested.

Subsequent investigation by sheriff's detectives, in cooperation with other area law enforcement agencies, connected the man and woman to a vehicle stolen out of Hyrum, and the woman was arrested Monday afternoon, Nelson stated Thursday.

"Search warrants were executed on a vehicle and [a] mobile home in Logan [where] these individuals had just moved eight days ago and it contained a sustainable amount of stolen property," the sheriff said.

On Thursday, investigators were still in the process of cataloging the seized property and identifying the victimized owners.

Some of the property was traced to two cabins in Blacksmith Fork Canyon; two homes in Hyrum; storage sheds in Logan, and a residence in Nibley. Other items are believed to have been stolen in Salt Lake and Duchesne counties.

Both suspects remained in the Cache County jail on Thursday, booked on suspicion of numerous theft and burglary charges.

"This is a tremendous effort of putting the pieces of this investigation together. A simple traffic stop lead to the end of a major theft and burglary ring," Nelson said.
