Park City neighborhood is among nation's richest

A slice of Park City is one of the richest neighborhoods in the U.S.

The Park Meadows Country Club area of Park City came in at number 982 on a new list of the 1,000 richest neighborhoods in the U.S. The list was created by geographer Stephen Higley, also a professor Emeritus of Urban Geography at the University of Montevallo, near Alabama. According to Higley, the neighborhood has 531 households and a mean household income of $191,357. It's also 98.5 percent white.

Park Meadows is the only Utah neighborhood on the list.

The top of the list is dominated by wealthy suburbs on either coast. Urban theorist Richard Florida writes that together all 1,000 neighborhoods house 2 million people. People in the top 63 neighborhoods have a mean household income of $390,000.

Florida also points out that, like Park Meadows, many of the richest neighborhoods are named for the "country club that defines them."

So what is Park Meadows like?

For one thing, obviously, they have a country club, though I could not immediately see a price list for memberships. (I know, it was gauche to even look.) However in 2012, Salt Lake Magazine's annual "Best of the Beehive" listed it as the best private golf course.

As far as homes, a real estate website describes the area as the largest master planned subdivision in Park City. The site features properties ranging from half a million dollars to $2 million.

In that same area code — which means it's nearby but not automatically part of the neighborhood — there is also one home selling right now for $44 million. A Facebook page of the area includes photos of the area, though it looks like the page hasn't been active for nearly a year.
