Montpelier, Vt. • Much of the Northeastern United States is digging out from a late season snowstorm that killed at least four and dumped more than 2 feet of snow on parts of Vermont.

Three people were killed and a state trooper seriously injured Wednesday in a series of crashes on the Ohio Turnpike. In New Hampshire, a truck driver was killed after his rig slid on a snow-covered highway.

The heaviest snow was reported in northern Vermont. There were a series of crashes there, but no serious problems were reported.

In Maine, more than 11,000 electric customers lost power.

The snow was a boon to skiers. Shawn Mahar, of Phillips, Maine, says the snow is just what is needed for back country skiing.
