7th Annual Spring Gruv • The pond skimming contest will be the first event of the 10-day Spring Gruv celebration. Contestants in costume attempt to cross a 100-foot pond on skis or a snowboard. A concert by Steel Pulse! follows. Information, www.canyonsresort.com/events.html%3Ftextid%3D169

When: Noon, Saturday, contest starts (registration for competitors is 9-10 a.m.)

Where: Canyons Resort, just outside Red Pine Lodge

Admission: $10-$50, must be 10 years of age or older to enter; spectators need a gondola ticket

Snowflake Festival • This four-day celebration runs through Sunday at Alta. Planned events include a field day, one-piece ski outfit day, ski with a ranger, Soul Poles sale that benefits the Alta Community Enrichment program, raffle and chili cook-off. When: 4:45-7 p.m. Friday, field day with contests in flycasting, snowball throwing and biathlon; 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, ski with a ranger; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Soul Pole sale; 6 p.m. Sunday, chili cook-off.

Utah Healthy Lifestyle Expo • Seminars, demonstrations and exhibits on healthy living. Information, www.greenband.com/healthylifestyle/.

40th Annual Parts Plus AutoRama • This year's exhibit includes cars that Hollywood made famous including cars from Back to the Future, the Green Hornet, Mad Max and Knight Rider. Information, autorama.com/attend-show/mar-21-23-salt-lake-city-ut/.

When: 3-10 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday

Kids Science Palooza • How does gravity work? What makes a rocket fly? How many ants live in one colony? Learn the answers to these questions and many more through activities, experiments, and demonstrations. Information, provocityevents.blogspot.com/.

Where: Provo Recreation Center, 320 W. 500 North, Provo

Admission: $4 (adults get in free with a paid child, children 2 and under free)

Wasatch Community Gardens Workshop Series • This workshop is on beginning organic gardening. Topics include: healthy soil, crop rotation, compost basics, natural pest control, crop diversity, companion planting, and when and what to plant. Advance registration suggested, wasatchgardens.org.

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday

Admission: $10, or you can waive the fee by selecting the $0.00 scholarship option
