Oregon completes sweep of Utah

The University of Oregon baseball team beat Utah 3-1 on Sunday in Eugene, Ore., giving up just two hits while completing a sweep of the Utes in the three-game Pac-12 series.

Utah starter Bret Helton (2-2) took the loss despite holding the Ducks to two runs on five hits over six innings with five strikeouts.

Utah took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cory Hunt doubled to left field and advanced to third when Max Schuman reached on an error. Wyler Smith's sacrifice fly scored Hunt.

Oregon starter Jeff Gold held the Utes to one run on two hits over eight innings.

Utah will host BYU on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Smith Ballpark.

Softball

Oregon 12, Utah 7 • Anissa Urtez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Utah, but the host Utes lost the Pac-12 game.

Utah State 7, Colorado State 2 • In Logan, USU's Noelle Johnson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six, and also hit two home runs.
