An 80-year-old school crossing guard in Orem sustained minor injuries when he was hit in a crosswalk Wednesday morning by a van.
Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez said the accident occurred at 7:23 a.m. Wednesday in the crosswalk at 1035 N. 800 East, near Orchard Elementary School.
"[He] was in the crosswalk with his traffic vest on, with his stop sign up, with the [crosswalk's] flashing lights on," Martinez said.
An unspecified number of children also were in the crosswalk at the time, but none were hit or injured.
The crossing guard was transported to the hospital, complaining of a non-life threatening neck injury, but was reported in good condition Wednesday afternoon. Martinez said the victim's name was not being released, but he is expected to recover.
The 48-year-old driver was cited for failure to yield and driving without insurance; the van was impounded, Martinez said.
