Man critical after car slides, rolls off snowy I-15

A 40-year-old man remained in critical condition Thursday, the day after his car slid off a snowy stretch of Interstate 15 near Santaquin.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the man, whose identity was not released, was initially rushed to Mountain View Hospital in Payson after the 7:48 p.m. rollover crash, in which his car ended up in a residential backyard near southbound mile post 243.

The victim, who was the driver, was later was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for what was expected to be a long recovery from extensive injuries.

Three passengers in the car escaped with minor injuries, Royce said.

The accident occurred during a snowstorm that hit higher elevations along the Wasatch Front on Wednesday night. Poor weather conditions prevented the injured man from being air-lifted from the scene.
