COLLEGE BASKETBALL • Syracuse freshman point guard Tyler Ennis announced Thursday that he is entering the NBA draft.

"I'd like to thank coach (Jim) Boeheim, the coaching staff, my teammates and the amazing fans … for the opportunity to play at a great university like Syracuse," Ennis said in an email. "I feel this experience has helped prepare me to fulfill my lifelong dream — to play in the NBA."

Ennis finished second on the Orange in scoring at 12.9 points per game and averaged 5.5 assists to go with 1.7 turnovers, one of the top assist-to-turnover marks in the nation.

Dempsey suspended for violent conduct

MLS • Clint Dempsey says he was disappointed by the two-game suspension issued by Major League Soccer just before a major international appearance for the U.S. national team against Mexico. Dempsey spoke for the first time about his suspension after the Seattle Sounders practiced Thursday. He said he doesn't agree with the decision but that there isn't any point in worrying about it. Dempsey was suspended for violent conduct toward Toronto FC defender Mark Bloom in a March 15 match.

• L.A. Galaxy defender James Riley will be out for at least six months after having surgery on his left knee. Riley's lateral meniscus was injured in the Galaxy's game Saturday at RSL.
