Salt Lake City cop stops angry driver at gunpoint

A Salt Lake City police officer drew his gun to stop an angry driver who aggressively approached him during a traffic stop this weekend.

The driver and two passengers were arrested after drugs and a weapon were found in their possession.

The incident began at 10:20 p.m. Sunday when the officer pulled over the car after learning it was uninsured. The 29-year-old driver quickly exited the car and came at the officer.

Feeling threatened, the officer ordered the 6-foot-3, 215-pound man to stop at gunpoint and radioed in for assistance. As other officers arrived, the driver allegedly continued to be verbally aggressive, but did not further approach police.

The driver and two passengers in the car — a 23-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man — were all arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia, a concealed knife and prescription medications.

The 32-year-old man also had active felony arrest warrants.
