After watching the news coverage of a baby gorilla born in San Diego by C-section and the top-of-the-line and expensive medical care the baby received to make sure it did not die or suffer, I could not help but think of the poor humans in Utah.
Utah Republicans and their stubbornness not to accept anything from the federal government (in particular President Obama) even if it helps the citizens of Utah is scary ("No Medicaid expansion deal reached in Utah," Tribune, March 21).
How lucky this ape was not to be human and born in Utah. It shows just how much our state Republicans value human life and suffering.
So why do they keep getting re-elected? Maybe the poor should contribute more money to the candidates when they run for office. Oh, wait, they can't! That's why we call them poor.
The governor's plan is not much better: we take some of the money (our money) from the feds and make the poor cough up the rest. Something is very wrong when it is better to be born an ape in another state than a human in Utah!
