Utah forecast: Rain, snow making quick exit through southern Utah

Another midweek of rain and snow was forecast for northern Utah before a water-laden storm system was to move south on Thursday.

Throughout Wednesday, the Wasatch Front looked for periodic rain and snow showers capped by evening thunderstorms. The meteorological drama was to ease somewhat Thursday, though, when partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the mid-50s — up 5-7 degrees from Wednesday — were predicted.

Tuesday's storm left behind some impressive snow totals. Brighton, at the crest, measured 20 inches of new snow by dawn Wednesday; Alta had 18; Deer Valley 17; Snowbird 13; Solitude 10; Park City 9, and Provo and Big Cottonwood canyons 7 inches.

Rain and by Wednesday afternoon thunderstorms were forecast for southern Utah. Thursday was to bring clearing skies and highs in the mid-60s, a few degrees warmer than Wednesday.

Air quality statewide was rated as "green," or healthy by the Utah Division of Air Quality.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website noted that cottonwood pollen was at high levels, though other allergens were at low levels.
