BYU football: Stanford receiver transferring to BYU

Provo • Another receiver who spent most of his college career at another school is transferring to BYU.

Monday, coach Bronco Mendenhall announced that receiver Keanu Nelson, who played sparingly at Stanford the past three seasons, will join BYU's football team this fall. Nelson will graduate this spring with a degree in science, technology and society and will be immediately eligible to play for BYU for one year.

Nelson, 5-foot-11, 184 lbs., saw action in five games for the Cardinal last fall as a receiver and a punt returner.

"We look forward to having Keanu join our program. He is a talented athlete and his high football IQ should serve him well during the transition while preparing to contribute to our team this season," Mendenhall said.

Nelson played high school football in Tucson, Ariz. (Sabino High School) and was the fourth-ranked recruit from Arizona his senior year after catching 61 passes for 1,135 yards and eight touchdowns.

In February, BYU signed UTEP transfer Jordan Leslie, who is also graduating this spring, and Riverside (Calif.) College receiver Ashante Blackmon, who began his college career at Oregon. Those two receivers will also join the program this summer.
