A new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market opens in Provo Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.

The new store at 2255 University Parkway is approximately one-quarter the size of the company's typical Supercenter and is expected to employ 95 people.

Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets offer a full grocery department, prepared food options, fresh baked breads, self-serve deli, a bakery and a pharmacy. The first one opened in 1998, and there are about 300 of the stores nationwide.

As is its custom when it opens a new store, Wal-Mart makes grants to local community groups. The company will give $8,000 to the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Provo School District and Intermountain Healthcare.

The store will be managed by Orem native Mat Thomas, who has been with Wal-Mart since 2005.
