As has been the case each of the past five seasons, the winner of Season 6 of "The Voice" will not be a Utahn.

Madilyn Paige, who was saved from elimination in Monday's episode when judge Blake Shelton "stole" her after she was eliminated by Usher, was dumped by Shelton on Tuesday in the first of the "Voice" playoffs. This season, the final five contestants on each judge's teams perform, and each of four judges pick three contestants to advance to the next round.

Paige was not picked to move on.

The Provo teen performed "Clarity" by Zedd featuring Foxes, and the judges were generally complimentary but not overly enthusiastic.

"I heard some pocket issues, but you managed to push through," said Shakira.

"You've got to let go," Adam Levine said, adding she seemed "afraid to mess up."

Shelton insisted he "couldn't be more confident and proud that I used my steal on you." But then he dumped her.

It was, he insisted, "the toughest decision that I have ever had to make in six seasons of this show." Which is pretty much what he says every season. Repeatedly.

Paige showed considerable poise and class, smiling and applauding the three contestants Shelton did choose to go on.

"Being on this show, I've grown so much," she said, "and thank you for giving me a second chance and being such an amazing coach."
