Ogden police were investigating an early Wednesday morning shooting that left a man in serious condition.

Police Lt. Scott Conley said the 23-year-old male victim told officers he was standing outside a residence in the area of 600 East and 700 South about 3:40 a.m. when the gunman approached him and fired at least three times.

Two of the bullets lodged in a fence, but the third struck the victim in the upper torso.

Conley said the suspect, described only as an adult male, ran from the scene. A white sedan was seen driving away from the area a short time later.

The victim was initially reported to be in critical condition at an Ogden hospital, but his vital signs had been stabilized and he was later upgraded to serious.

While the genesis of the shooting was not detailed by police, the case has been turned over the Metro Gang Unit for investigation.
