A Utah writer and beauty expert is in the running to be chosen "Beauty Blogger of the Year" by the fashion magazine Allure.

Megan Moore of Salt Lake City, who writes the blog The Beauty Snoop, has been named as one of 10 finalists in Allure's contest, which begins a series of "Survivor"-like elimination challenges on Monday.

Moore and the other finalists will be given a series of challenges, which will be judged by Allure editors and celebrity guests — and voted on by the public. Each week, one blogger will be deemed the winner, and others will be eliminated until only one champion remains.

The winner will be flown to New York, to be photographed and interviewed for a feature in Allure's October issue.

Moore's blog features reviews of beauty products, and how-to guides for using them well.

"Although it may seem shallow on the surface, I believe there is great power in a fabulous haircut, the perfect shade of lipstick, or the glow of a soft [faux] tan," Moore writes on her blog. "With confidence comes energy, and this world deserves your individual energy that no one else has."

Moore is the owner of Moore Hair Design, a Salt Lake City salon. She's married, with two daughters.
