Investigators in Iron County say a non-compliant sex offender may have targeted unreported victims while he lived in the Cedar City area for 20 years, unbeknownst to law enforcement.

Iron County sheriff's deputies learned of Gary Albritton, 57, in March when he was identified as the possible owner of some property found close to a road near Cedar City, according to a Wednesday press release. In trying to locate Albritton, investigators discovered he was a convicted sex-offender from California.

On Wednesday, officers found Albritton in Cedar City and arrested him on suspicion of failure to register as a sex offender.

Because Albritton has lived in the Cedar City area for so long without registering as a sex offender, investigators "are concerned there may be local victims which are unknown to investigators at this time," deputies wrote.

Anyone with information about Albritton's activities may call investigators at 435-867-7500.

Sheriff's officers would not describe the found property that purportedly belonged to Albritton, or whether the property was related to his status as a sex offender.
