Iowa candidate threatens castration by gun. 10th Circuit takes up same-sex marriage case today. Utah asks top state court to drop gay marriage adoptions.

Happy Thursday. First there was the Senate candidate from Iowa who noted she would take her skills in castrating pigs to Washington and now there's the Senate candidate from Iowa who wants to use his Glock to accomplish the same point. Bob Quast, an independent candidate, shows off his pistol and brandishes a knife as he threatens bodily harm to anyone who would hurt his sister or daughters. [TPM]

Topping the news: Today, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear both sides of the appeal of Judge Robert Shelby's ruling overturning the ban on same-sex marriage in Utah.
