A Utah Department of Transportation worker escaped injury when his bucket truck came in contact with a high power transmission line in Washington City late Thursday morning.

However, the incident triggered a power outage that left the southwestern Utah community's 6,300 utility customers without service for about 20 minutes.

Washington City Power Director Kelly Carlson said the outage occurred about 10:10 a.m. as the UDOT worker was adjusting traffic cameras on Interstate 15.

"He stayed in the bucket while we deactivated [the power line] and was OK," Carlson said.

The system was recharged and service fully restored by 10:30 a.m.
