No one in the know is surprised at UTA's outrageous bonuses ($1.7 million this year). The problem is that most don't understand, and non-PC points of view are seldom published.
UTA = "government-controlled transportation." A state that supposedly cherishes freedom from big government sure pushes trainsthe most gold-plated, impractical mode of transportation. But it's a PC thing so trains rob the federal highway trust fund to pay around half of train construction costs (benefitting a few large international construction firms lobbying in Washington), are subsidized some $8 for every $1.50 ride, and then we pay these ridiculous salaries and bonuses. Here's the true formula: trains = expensive.
Most of us simply work for a living and don't even get bonuses. There's plenty of "management talent" to run our small train systems and there's no excuse for paying them more than the governor! Common citizens know their arguments are ridiculous.
Concentrate on fixing auto pollution and promote continued use of the most empowering, free, and productive means: individual transportation for Americans.
