The University of Utah has named Keith Diaz Moore from the University of Kansas as the new dean of the College of Architecture and Planning.

Moore started a new doctoral program in architecture and promoted sustainable building efforts at the University of Kansas, where he has worked since 2006 and now serves as associate dean of graduate studies and as an associate professor of architecture.

Ruth Watkins, senior vice president of academic affairs at the U., praised Moore's "energetic and inclusive" leadership style and academic focus on aging populations in a statement.

Moore replaces Brenda Case Scheer, who resigned last year amid controversy over her role in what was seen as the forced resignation of the chair of the architecture department. She plans to return to the college as a professor after a sabbatical. The chair, well-known local architect Prescott Muir, agreed to stay.

Pending approval from the U. board of trustees, Moore will start Aug. 1. Keith Bartholomew, an associate professor of city and metropolitan planning who has been serving as acting dean since August, will return to the faculty.
