Salt Lake City police say a knife-wielding man first demanded booze, then money. He got neither, but did get a trip to jail.

Just before 6 p.m. Monday, the 59-year-old suspect approached an employee at A&J Food, 616 S. 500 West. When the victim failed to provide either drink or cash, the suspect allegedly slashed the victim's clothing before dropping the knife and walking away.

Police found the suspect outside a nearby homeless shelter and took him into custody after a brief struggle.

The man was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery, assault by a prisoner and public intoxication.
