See mountain goats at free wildlife viewing..

With most patches of snow gone from the Wasatch Front foothills, the white coats of Rocky Mountain goats should stand out brilliantly during the state's annual free viewing event at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be on hand Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Park-and-Ride lot at the mouth of the canyon.

"You will get a front-row look at these agile rock climbers using spotting scopes and binoculars that we'll have on hand," Bob Walters, watchable wildlife coordinator for the DWR said in a news release. "You can also pick up a card that will teach you more about mountain goats."

Mountain goat-related activities for children will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. DWR staffers will help people view the animals and answer questions about the goats in Utah.

Mountain goats congregate at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon about this time each year. Stationary telescopes are located at the Park-and-Ride for viewing any time.

The goats will be headed for higher elevations soon, but will likely return to the area in November.
