The Sandy City Police Department will host a town hall meeting Monday on how to break "the cycle of child abuse" in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

According to a statement released by the department, the Family Crimes and Intervention Unit will host the event, which begins at 7 p.m. at Sandy City Hall (10000 S Centennial Parkway).

Four presenters are expected to share personal stories and experiences: Preston Jenson, of Prevent Child Abuse Utah; Deondra Brown, a member of musical group The 5 Browns, Ciera Pekarcik, who was crowned Miss Utah in 2013; and a detective from the police unit that investigates child crimes.

The event is free and open to the public.
