Mike Hadley, a fisheries biologist in Southern Utah for the DWR, sent in this report of a recent spring survey at Gunlock Reservoir.

Gunlock Reservoir Electrofishing SurveyUtah Division of Wildlife Resources conducted an electrofishing survey on April 21, 2014, to monitor fish populations in Gunlock Reservoir, west of St. George. This survey is conducted at night when fish are found in very shallow water close to shore. We caught a lot of nice largemouth bass; one- to three-pound fish were abundant, while we also saw bass up to six pounds like the one that fish technician Mikyn Fullmer is holding. Black crappie up to ten inches in length were also very abundant. The water temperature was in the upper 50s, so fishing should start heating up now. Gunlock will be a great place to visit this summer for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. Visit www.stateparks.utah.gov and check the boat ramp schedule before you go.
