Provo police have issued an Amber Alert for a 13-year-old boy who they believe was kidnapped on Friday by his father, who does not have legal custody of him.

Police think the boy, Pablo Enrique Rivera, is being taken to Guadalajara, Mexico, by 42-year-old Juan Enrique Rivera in a white newer model four-door Chevrolet sedan with Mexican plates. Investigators believe they could be headed to the San Ysidro, Calif., border crossing.

Maria Hernandez, the boy's mother, came home at 8 p.m. Friday and found a note from her son saying he was going to Mexico with his father.

Juan Rivera is described as Hispanic with black hair and brown eyes, 5 foot 10 and 200 pounds. Pablo is Hispanic, 5 foot 5, 100 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. The boy wears prescription glasses.

The boy's grandfather also is in the vehicle, according to police. Pablo's cell phone was pinged at 10:32 p.m. Friday near the Barstow Freeway in California but has been turned off.

Police say Juan Rivera kidnapped his daughter five years ago and has not returned her.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Provo Police Department at 801-852-6210.
