Randall Carlisle returning to KTVX to anchor weekend newscasts

KTVX's new weekend anchorman is anything but new to Utah and Utah viewers.Randall Carlisle is returning to the station where he was employed for nearly two decades - the station that dropped him in 2008.That was under previous ownership and previous management, however.Carlisle has been out of television for the past 5½ years; he has been working as a manager at the Harmons City Creek grocery store.He rejoins Channel 4 on Saturday; he's scheduled to be back behind the anchor desk on Saturday, May 10. "I'm excited to become involved again with Utah news," Carlisle said in a statement released by KTVX. "I'm a reporter at heart and have been frustrated not to be involved when big stories break like the recent shooting at the federal courthouse." Carlisle was a fixture at KUTV-Ch. 2 and KTVX-Ch. 4 for a quarter of a century. He anchored the news at KUTV from 1980-88, then left for stints in Minneapolis and Dallas. He returned to Salt Lake City in 1991, replacing Phil Riesen as the primary anchor at KTVX.In 2002, he was removed from the 10 p.m. newscast in favor of Scott Swan; two years later, Swan was gone and Carlisle resumed his late-news (in addition to early evening) duties. In 2006, Ross Becker became the 10 p.m. anchor and Carlisle anchored late-afternoon and early evening newscasts.As of May 10, Carlisle will be the sole anchor of KTVX's 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays. He'll be joined by forecaster Kylie Bearse and sportscasters Wesley Ruff and Dana Greene."It's great to have a journalist of Randall's depth, experience and quality added to our Good4Utah news team," sayid Richard Doutre Jones, vice president and general manager of KTVX and sister station KUCW-Ch. 30.
