A Midvale motorcyclist has been charged with the manslaughter of his passenger in an August traffic crash in South Jordan.
Luis Enrique Tovar was driving a motorcycle Aug. 10 at about 55 mph 20 mph over the speed limit on 3200 West near 10950 South when he illegally passed another motorist in the center lane and crashed, police wrote in charges filed Wednesday. Tovar, 32, and his passenger, 29-year-old Tara Nicole Sheppick, were not wearing helmets, police have said. Tovar survived his injuries, but Sheppick died at a hospital.
Tovar was charged with second-degree felony manslaughter and other traffic violations.
